We Have a Shirt Problem. You Probably Do Too

We have a shirt problem blog post | Shirt Habit

Some people collect shoes. Some collect watches. Some somehow end up with an entire cabinet full of coffee mugs.

For us, it’s T-shirts.

Not just any T-shirts, either. We like the ones that make somebody stop, look twice, laugh, shake their head, or immediately say, “Where did you get that?”

That idea is a big part of why Shirt Habit exists.

Shirt Habit is part of a family of businesses that includes ShaveEssentials.com and GreenToMeanCoffee.com—two brands we’re extremely proud of. But we wanted another outlet. Something that gave us more room to be creative, make things purely because they made us laugh, and occasionally let some of the darker ideas rattling around in our heads escape into the world.

Graphic T-shirts turned out to be the perfect way to do it.

A Shirt Can Say a Lot Without Saying Much

One of the things we’ve always liked about graphic tees is how easily they connect people.

You see someone wearing a shirt about a movie you love, a strange hobby, an inside joke, a ridiculous workplace situation, or the same questionable sense of humor you have, and there’s immediately a connection.

Sometimes it’s just a nod.

Sometimes it starts a conversation.

And sometimes you see a shirt and think:

FINALLY.

Finally, somebody made that joke.

Finally, somebody else thinks like this.

Finally, a shirt that doesn’t look like everything else we’ve already seen a hundred times.

That’s the feeling we want people to have when they land on Shirt Habit.

Different Collections for Different Sides of Us

You’ll notice pretty quickly that Shirt Habit doesn’t stick to one theme.

That’s intentional.

Our collections are very different because people are very different—and because we are, too.

One day the idea might be dark humor. The next could be aliens, horror, retro designs, office humor, something completely ridiculous, or something that only makes sense to a very specific group of people.

Those different collections represent different facets of our own personality, but they also come from dealing with all kinds of people with completely different interests.

We don’t expect every shirt on the site to appeal to every person.

In fact, we’d probably be doing something wrong if it did.

The goal is to make Shirt Habit interesting enough that even when you don’t like one particular design, you still want to see what’s next.

Maybe you hate the shirt you’re looking at.

Fair enough.

But if it makes you laugh, appreciate the idea, wonder who would wear it, or send it to a friend who absolutely would, then it did its job.

Where the Ideas Come From

There isn’t a boardroom full of people studying spreadsheets to decide what our next shirt should say.

Most ideas start much less professionally than that.

They come from random thoughts.

A funny conversation.

Something somebody says that deserves to be on a shirt.

A strange moment in everyday life.

Something interesting we see online or on TV.

Sometimes an idea just appears out of nowhere, and we have to write it down before it disappears.

Those notes eventually turn into designs.

Some will be ridiculous. Some will be dark. Some will probably make you question our judgment.

That’s okay.

We don’t want Shirt Habit to be boring.

We Like Our Humor a Little Twisted

There should be something here for a lot of different people because of the range of collections we’re building.

But we should probably warn you about one thing.

We tend to lean toward dark and twisted humor.

Not every design will go in that direction, but if your sense of humor occasionally makes the people around you uncomfortable, you may feel unusually at home here.

We’re not interested in filling the store with safe, predictable graphics just because they might appeal to everybody.

We’d rather make something memorable.

Maybe even something that starts a trend instead of chasing one.

A Great Design Still Needs a Great Shirt

The artwork gets most of the attention, but the shirt underneath it matters.

A lot.

There’s no point putting a great design on a T-shirt you don’t actually want to wear.

That’s why we’re using high-quality shirts that feel good, hold up, and are worthy of becoming one of those tees you keep reaching for.

Because that’s the other thing about a shirt habit:

Even the good ones eventually wear out.

Which means there’s always room for another one.

Feed Your Shirt Habit

That’s where our slogan comes from.

Feed Your Shirt Habit.

There’s always another design.

Another joke.

Another interest.

Another mood.

Another shirt that makes you feel like you’re in on something.

And we’ll be adding new designs all the time.

We have to.

This company is where we get the ideas out of our heads. If we stop making them, there’s a very real chance we won’t be able to sleep at night.

So expect the site to keep changing.

Expect new collections.

Expect weird ideas.

Expect things you weren’t looking for.

And hopefully, every once in a while, expect to find a shirt that makes you stop scrolling and say:

“FINALLY.”

Welcome to Shirt Habit.
